Meet Greg Banks

My Bio:

​

I grew up on the East Coast, the fifth of six kids raised by a single mother who taught us to work hard and look out for each other. I earned a mechanical engineering degree and worked at Boeing in the mid-80s.  It was there that I realized I was better suited to solving people problems than technology problems, which led me to law school at the University of Washington.

 

I graduated in 1993, and began my career as a deputy prosecutor in Island County the same year.  My former wife and I moved to Whidbey Island to raise our three children, and I have served this community ever since.

Our kids went to South Whidbey schools.  I coached more youth soccer and little league teams than I can remember, and had a ball doing it.  I coached Destination Imaginations teams at the Intermediate School.

​

Wendy, my wife of eighteen years, and I are committed to lives focused on family, public service, and the quiet enjoyment of living amid the natural beauty of Island County.  We are grateful for a loving, blended family, that, though separated by distance, includes my former wife and her partner, and our children and grandchildren.

​

In my free time, when I'm not at home tending to my vegetable garden, you can find me running or hiking on the island's many wonderful trails, birding, swimming laps at a local pool, and playing classic rock and roll guitar with a group of six friends who kindly tolerate my mistakes.

Why I'm running for re-election

​

For nearly three decades, it has been my privilege to serve our community as your Prosecutor. Every day, I make difficult decisions that have profound effects on other people's lives.  I carry that responsibility with humility and conscientiousness. Bringing the power of the prosecutor's office to bear is how society responds to the most heinous and violent acts people can do to one another. I am privileged to speak for victims in court, and ensure their rights are safeguarded.  I treasure the Thank You cards and other meaningful mementos I have received.  No monetary compensation from a private practice could ever match the fulfillment I get from serving the public good in this way.

Throughout my career, I've believed that the role of a prosecutor is to act without fear or favor—it's about doing what is right and applying the law fairly.  It's about making thoughtful decisions that protect our community and uphold confidence in the rule of law.

I'm running for another term because my commitment has never faltered. The challenges facing our communities may change, but the need for experienced, steady leadership remains constant. I want to continue building on our accomplishments and ensuring our justice system serves the people with integrity, professionalism, and fairness.
